Like a wedding gift registry, except in line with our sustainability goals, we are looking for pre-loved items with plenty of life left in them.

Please note, we don’t need heaps of the following and we don’t want to be overwhelmed with stuff we can’t use or store.

If you have anything to gift, please get in touch, email theclubhousemoorooka@gmail.com with the subject line: GIFT and a description and photo of your donation.

  • Goods or services that could be contributed to a raffle

  • Trestle tables

  • Large eskies

  • Gazebos

  • Outdoor kids play equipment (ride on toys, climbing frames, toddler busy board etc)

  • Indoor kids toys that can be easily sanitised

In the week leading up to Christmas we were feeling the festive spirit; The Clubhouse was gifted $870 from Cromwell Property Group and we finally received the keys to the club (one year after finding out our tender was successful!).

On Christmas Eve, Lesley, a local community member, messaged us to explain she had nominated The Clubhouse Moorooka as an organisation Cromwell employees could choose to donate to in the lead up to Christmas. Cromwell also contributed as well. We were blown away by Cromwell and their employee's generosity. Thanks Lesley!

On 21 December we finally received keys to the club. It took a year and a day of negotiations and works by Council (which aren’t complete yet) to get to this point. It was definitely a milestone to celebrate!

As a result of the negotiations with Council we are pleased to report the Main Bar in the building has a new cold room and bar flooring, with a bar frame coming soon (it’s our job to fit it out). The Dining Hall has new ceiling tiles and will have new carpet soon. The kiosk (which will serve The Garden Bar) has had the cold room removed and due to the floor falling away underneath, it also has new flooring and walls.

We would like to thank locals James from JDA Co and Shaun from All So Cool for quickly swinging into action and expertly guiding us in this space.

The Main Bar - cold room constructed, with doors to be cut.

A view from the kiosk out to The Garden Bar

Earlier this year we were successful in two grants, a Federal Stronger Communities Grant which has funded a new dishwasher in the kiosk and some chairs and tables for The Garden Bar, as well as a Lord Mayor’s Better Suburbs Grant, which will fund the restoration of one of our greens to social bowling standard (see our volunteering opportunities for more information).

Now that we have the keys to the building we are looking to opening the venue in late January. Watch this space for opening details and volunteering opportunities to make it a reality.

If you've walked past the old bowls club lately, you will have noticed a lot of action going on.

Brisbane City Council are undergoing structural works to make sure the facility is safe for us all to enjoy. This work includes removal or encapsulation of asbestos, addressing black mould in the Main Bar flooring, replacing cracked or damaged ceiling tiles, and inspecting the plumbing and electrical work.

Our team have been very fortunate to have support from local architect James and his team from JDA Co. expertly guiding us through some very fast design decisions and Shaun from All So Cool assisting us with bar and coldroom design.

Who's looking forward to dancing on this dance floor again? You'll be able to gaze up at the brand-spanking-new ceiling. Turns out replacing a few ceiling tiles here and there wasn't possible and so, a new ceiling is going in.

Something's missing! That's right - the Main Bar! When assessing the black mould in the bar's flooring, it was determined that the whole bar, cold room and all, had to go. We wished we could have run tours of this space before it was demolished, because it really was a relic from the past!

Hole-y moley! There have been a few surprise holes discovered while undergoing these works.

As works continue at The Clubhouse Moorooka, we will keep you up-to-date here on our blog.
